Made In China references this discrepancy between China’s rich history of art and culture and its controversial modern reality. Utilizing the aesthetics of traditional Chinese scroll paintings of seasonal imagery, this series focuses on the country’s current political, economic, and social conflict. The text on each piece, which relates to a particular aspect of conflict, is Chinese calligraphy with its English translation and a traditional Chinese stamp. China’s past and present are viewed as an alchemy of beauty, culture, control, and contradiction.
